Editing photos

This is the original picture for my front cover. Firstly I removed the background to make it transparent over the black background of my magazine. This took some time due to the fine strands of hair especially at the bottom where I tried several different methods of cutting around it to make it look as natural and realistic as possible. I then airbrushed her skin getting rid of bags under her eyes and some minor blemishes/wrinkles in the skin. I slightly brightened the colour of her hair for a more daring look and also make her lips a more even pink colour. The photo below is the final image.

This is the original picture for my contents page. For this photo I simply removed the background so it will be transparent against the black background of the contents page, I also enhanced some of Pippa's facial features.

This is the origional picture for my double page spread. I expanded the curtain so that it covered the whole background. I then did some minor arbrushing on Alice's face. The picture below is the final image I will use.

This is the origional secondary picture for my double page spread. All I have done is slightly airbrushed her face to get rid of bags under her eyes and to perfect her features. The picture below is the final image I will use. I didnt remove the backgrounds from these images as it makes them look very plain on a double page spread to have a block colour background. The white sheet helps put accorss the point that she is just a normal girl and she as not at all inot glamour or being perfect.

Picture decisions

I have decided on which pictures I will edit and use for my front cover, contents page and double page spread.

I will use this picture for my front cover.

I will use this picture for my contents page.

I will use these pictures for my double page spread.

Taking Pictures: Alice

As I am still unhappy with my pictures of Alice for the front cover and double page spread, I have retook them. This time I did them in the photo studio on a white background with better lighting.

These pictures are a lot better than the last ones I took of Alice and look a lot more professional. They create a mood but also serious meaning and Alice represents a mature teenager with a career and it goes against stereotypes of teenagers not taking any responsibilities and only thinking of having fun in the present and when teenagers see this they will be inspired and it will be encouraging to see people their own age in a positive light and will appeal to them.

Taking pictures: Pippa and Alex

Today I went out to take some pictures of two of my friends, Pippa and Alex, as I am unhappy with the pictures I already have. Currently I am unsure whether I will use them as my main artists or just for my contents page.

These pictures are very casual and they are doing typical things all teenagers do. This is showing that fame hasn't changed these artists and they are still normal teenagers which is relatable for the readers and is also inspiring as it makes them think they can do it too. These photos effectively portray a stereotypical teenage girls life.

Photo planning

I will take my new photos of Alice in the studio so they look more professional and will be of higher quality. I will have her wear a similar outfit and makeup as the first photos as I think she fitted the genre.

I will take new contents page pictures of a higher quality as the other ones aren't too good. I will take a picture of a small band, Pippa and Alex as Antidote, and have only one large picture on my contents page. I will take these pictures outdoors as I liked the outdoor ones of Alice however they didn't look professional enough for the front cover and double page spread. I will have them doing normal everyday things to show nothing has changed since fame and they are still normal people as my magazine style isn't about glam or a upper class life.

Rough Cut Review: Double Page Spread

My double page spread is very basic and empty so there is a lot I can do to improve this. Although I like the picture I will re take it but with possibly the same or a similar background. I will have the description over the picture instead of next to the name, and have the artists name fill that whole of the top of the right hand page. I will have a large quote in the middle of the article to attract the readers attention and to add detail and I will make the drop capital bigger.

Rough Cut Review: Contents Page

The first thing I want to change about my contends page is the colour scheme. I want to make it green rather than blue as my front cover and double page spread both have green and I want to have it continuing throughout the magazine. Although I like the top box with contents, the magazine name, date and issue number I would like to change the layout of the page to make it more picture than text based. I would also like to take new pictures however I like the top one so I may keep or remake that one, the others I will most likely completely change. I will also try using lines to separate my articles to make it more organised and clear to understand. I will have less articles on the page because when there is too many you are trying to look at too many things at once and it gets confusing, I will just have the cover stories on the page.
